Time Management is Useful Tool for Success for University Students

Time Management is Useful Tool for Success for University StudentsFinally, you at long last made the cut in the college and everything will be smooth cruising starting now and into the foreseeable future. All the diligent work back in secondary school paid off, you thought.

Yes, the greater part of your diligent work back in secondary school truly paid off. Notwithstanding, you ought not accept that everything would be simple as a college understudy. Be readied that it will be more chaotic and unpleasant than what you experienced in secondary school.

Many students assume that they can now take it easy once they reached college. They think like these because of what they heard from many university students about great parties and many friends to meet. This is a common misconception of many new university students.

Being a university student means a lot more work and dedication to your studies, but it does not mean you should not have fun like what you heard about what other university students talk about.

So how can you mix studies and socialization?

The answer to that would be time management.

Planning to manage your time is not that easy, many university students often fail on achieving their goals and resulting in frustration because many of them set unrealistic goals. It is important that you should set goals that are both difficult to achieve but achievable.

There are many factors that you should consider when doing a time management plan. You should not only set specific goals, but also set time on when you will be working on it.

As you can imagine, there are many things to do as a university students. Your parents are not there to help you, you have to do every little thing and some of them may be time consuming.

Always remember that you will be living in the university campus or nearer and this means that all the amenities of home will not always be there. You have to drive to the laundry, do your groceries and cook your own food. It can be very difficult to adjust being a university student, especially if you are a freshman.

It is your responsibility to take care of yourself and at the same time study. There will be no parents telling you to do your homework. There will also be no one to assign what time you should go home.

You might think that all these are very good that there are no nagging parents to tell you what to do. Nevertheless, this is to train you to become responsible for yourself.

You will be tempted to go to parties on study night since no one will tell you that you are not allowed and you have all the time you have.

While it is true you can do whatever you want with your time while in the university, passing every exam should be one of your long-term goal. In order to achieve this, you have to study hard and know how to manage your time.

Here are some tips on how to manage your time:

Set a number of goals that you can achieve. Having too little will give you no satisfaction and often does not give the desired results and having too much will often result in failure and frustration. Achieve this by thinking of different goals and writing them down, always remember to be realistic.

After you wrote it down, the next step would be to determine the most important goals you have to achieve. Pick on how many you can achieve in a specific period.

The next step would be prioritizing your goals. Try to think of what is the most important goal you want to achieve and prioritize them.

Next would be planning it. Set an everyday schedule of task, it is important to follow everything you listed down. Always welcome the free time in your class, for example, the professor is late for 15 minutes. Use this free time to study or review your notes to get ready for exams that your professor might give.

Since this is just your first day of time management, it will not always be perfect. If you see something wrong or seem to have miscalculated the time, change it. Do not force yourself on work you can no longer do just to achieve it. This kind of attitude will only be stressful for you.

Always include in your daily schedule on what time you should sleep. Always welcome a break. You must know that sleep is an important factor in time management. If you study too hard and rest too little, expect failure on goals. You will not study effectively without sleep.

Training Leaders Struggle With Writing

Showing rudimentary and auxiliary understudies how to compose well is testing. Numerous understudies don’t comprehend the center standards behind composing, including the rudiments of sentence and section structure, a sensible movement of thoughts, and peruser mindfulness. Others don’t have the specialized aptitudes of composing, including linguistic use and accentuation. Be that as it may, with predictable, year-by-year, drawing in guideline by conferred educators who comprehend the worth as well as the standards and abilities of good written work, understudies can figure out how to compose well.

If students don’t learn to write well, I blame the teachers. Not the television, not the parents, not the peers, not the music-the teachers because they are specifically charged with teaching and are held accountable for student learning. In this day and age of education accountability, teachers are held to a high standard for student learning by local and state education leaders. In part, they are measured, assessed, and evaluated based on whether or not their students learn to write.

But here’s the rub. If education leaders are not able to write well, do they have the moral authority to hold teachers accountable for the students’ writing abilities? Furthermore, do they have the ability to determine whether or not students write well if they, themselves, cannot demonstrate good writing?

Egregious Example
I spend quite a bit of time on websites for state education agencies, and once in a while, I come across a document that demonstrates how education leaders struggle with writing. Recently, I was reviewing a School Improvement Grant (SIG) request for proposals. The purpose of the SIG is to transform so-called “failing” schools so that students can improve their academic performance. The people who wrote the request for proposal, and whoever reviewed it before distribution, do not write well. Even while telling school leaders what to do to improve student achievement, they demonstrated their own lack of ability.

Example 1
“LEA must implement each of the following strategies by:
• Replacing the principal (if the principal has been at the school less than two years, the LEA can choose not to replace them).”

Problems with writing skills
1) “Them” is a plural pronoun referring to more than one person; its antecedent is “the principal,” which is singular. (According to the Common Core State Standards, third grade students are expected to master the ability to “Ensure subject-verb and pronoun-antecedent agreement.”)
2) The colon after “by” is incorrect because the prior statement is not an independent clause. If this statement were written out (i.e., not in a bulleted list), it would not need a colon.

Problems with writing principles
1) The writing style is inconsistent. The following text occurs later on the same page: “the LEA can choose not to replace him /her.” This statement is grammatically correct (even though I don’t like the “him/her” construction).
2) The statement doesn’t make sense! The example shows the first of many actions in a bulleted list. The applicant is instructed to “implement each of the following strategies by” doing the following actions. According to the example, therefore, the applicant must implement each strategy by replacing the principal (e.g., to do strategy one, replace the principal; to do strategy two, replace the principal; etc.) This is wrong. Replacing the principal is the required strategy, not a way to implement the strategy. To fix this logic problem, the writer could remove “by,” and the statement will communicate the intended message. (According to the Common Core State Standards, fourth grade students are expected to master the ability to “Choose words and phrases to convey ideas precisely.”

Example 2
“Implementing comprehensive instructional reform strategies that includes –

  • Using data to identify and implement research-based instructional programs that are aligned with state academic standards and vertically aligned between grades.
  • Promoting continuous use of individualized student data to inform and differentiate instruction to better meet the individual academic needs of students.
  • Promoting continuous use of individualized student data to inform and differentiate instruction to better meet the individual academic needs of students.”

Problems with writing skills
1) “Strategies that includes” is wrong. “Strategies” is not a third person singular noun, so the verb “includes” should not have an “s.” As mentioned previously, third grade students are expected to use verbs that agree with their subjects.
2) Similar to the prior example, the introductory statement for the bulleted list should not have a hyphen to introduce the list.
3) The first two listed items should not end with periods but with commas (or, perhaps, semi-colons). This bulleted list starts with a partial sentence, but where does that sentence end?

Problem with writing principles
The third bullet repeats the second bullet. That’s simply sloppy. Grade 7 students are expected to “Choose language that expresses ideas precisely and concisely, recognizing and eliminating wordiness and redundancy.” Repeating the exact words is the worst form of redundancy.

Example 3
“For each major activity, identify the line item costs associated and provide an explanation/justification for the cost that closely connects to the project action step, strategy identified. This will be completed in an excel spreadsheet and uploaded to the Web EPPS filing cabinet.”

Problem with writing skills
1) “Excel” is a proper noun and should be capitalized. Even second grade students are expected to “Capitalize holidays, product names, and geographic names.”

Problem with writing principles
1) The first sentence is not clear: what does “strategy identified” refer to? If the prior comma is replaced with “and,” this statement might make more sense, as in “connects to the project action step and strategy identified.”
2) In fact, the entire first sentence is unclear. The expression “that closely connects to the project action step, strategy identified” could refer to either the costs or to the justification.

Conclusion

I will make a huge assumption here and assume that these errors and problems are the result of someone being rushed for time and not editing. But that is an unprofessional (and risky) approach, particularly when the document is critical. Particularly when the publishing agency publishing has regulatory authority such that the documents have legally enforceable implications.

Particularly when the publishing agency is a state-level education organization.

High School Juniors Searching For Conquering College

Before doing any school arranging or school look, every lesser ought to sit with their direction guide/school consultant and get their class rank, GPA and with their SAT/ACT scores they can see what profile they have made to date. This profile can change a little by the evaluations and test scores from the primary semester of their senior. You require this profile with a specific end goal to see where you remain in contrast with the schools/college’s last year’s affirmations profile. When you contrast your profile with the establishment’s profile of a year ago’s entering class, you can advise on the off chance that you have an opportunity to be considered for confirmations.

Juniors, you have to register for the May SAT test by the first week of April or you can register for the June SAT test by the first week in May. You can go the collegeboard.com any time to register and the earlier the better so you can avoid late fees. If you are interested in taking the ACT test in the spring of your junior year, there is a test date in April and you must register by the first week of March and there is also a test date in June, which you have to register by the first week of May. You have to go to act.org for test dates and registration. Again, you should register as early as possible in order to avoid late fees. You want to at least take one test in the spring of your junior year. See your guidance counselor/college adviser for any other tests that you need to take before leaving for the summer.

Juniors, you should also look closely at what activities you have been involved in and put your resume together because colleges would like to see what else besides academics that have been involved in. Your resume should list everything that you have done since entering high school. These activities should be meaningful in that you have spent time and effort that can be substantiated.

College visits in the spring and summer of your junior year: A crucial step in the college admissions process

One of the important pieces in the college admissions and college attendance is college visits. The reason that it is very important that you visit colleges and universities is that there is no other way to decide where you should apply or attend better than visiting the college campuses to see if they are a good fit for your personality. An institution may be a good academically fit but a poor fit for your personality. When you walk on a campus, you will be able to tell if that campus is a good fit for you. Can see yourself spending four years there and be completely happy?

When visiting a college campus, make sure that you bring a copy of your transcript, a copy of your test scores and your resume. If at all possible, schedule a meeting with a college admissions counselor and meet with the counselor by yourself because you are the one going to college not your parents. This can be helpful when and if you do apply to that institution. Most colleges keep track of students who have visited their campuses and this can weigh in your favor when and if you do apply. It is best to visit colleges when classes are still in session so you can get a good feel for campus’ atmosphere but if you can’t do it then, do it during the summer break.

For First year University Students Time Management is Crucial

Ever come up short on schedule for something that should have been finished?

On the off chance that you addressed yes, maybe you experienced difficulty dealing with your time legitimately. Time administration can show you how to take advantage of your time.

Time management is one of the most important skills for university students. You should be very busy with your studies while, at the same time, balancing it with an on-campus social life.

You have been admitted to the school of your choice, with hopes of meeting new friends and finding success in your classes.

Getting into college is the easy part, but the hard part would be finishing it in one piece. College can be fun but at the same time frustrating, especially if your professors are being difficult or too strict. You may have thought some of these things when you first visited your university’s campus:

• I am overwhelmed. This is too much.

• The campus is so big, how will I ever find my way around?

• Okay, now I am a college student. Now what happens?

Surviving college is not just about how intelligent you are. It is not about how high you scored on standardized tests or admissions exams, and it is not entirely about classes and studying. People need to socialize; it’s part of their human nature. College does allow you to interact, but you must also study.

It is important that you balance your time between studying and socializing. Some college students studythemselves to the point of fatigue, but then some of them do not pass their classes due to stress. Other college students think of the university as one endless party.

Some students do not appreciate the importance of socialization, and others do not value the importance of their education.

You may be an intellect but it is not the only key to success in college. What is the secret to collegiate success?

Time management is vital.

College requires you to balance your life. You have to manage everything, such as class preparation, studying, campus organization activities, spending time with friends, eating healthy, exercising, and sleeping.

Time management is not solely about studying, but also the attentiveness on relieving the stress of college life.

Here are some ways that you can effectively manage your precious time:

• Learn to prioritize. Once you are focused on the goals you wish to achieve, you must prioritize the activities required to reach the goal. That will help you determine what particular task needs to be accomplished first and what tasks can be reserved for the future. To accomplish your goals more efficiently, try to mark deadlines on your calendar.

• Try to set goals. Know what you want to achieve and make those achievements your priority. That could be anything, whether you want to achieve the goal in a day, a week, a month, or a semester. Determine what your academic goal should be.

Making goals could make it simpler for you to concentrate; instead of juggling subjects that you think are easy, it could be very stressful and often results in failing to achieve your goal.

If you have more than one goal, it is wise to separate them into more manageable sections. Make a list of what you want to achieve for one week and for following weeks.

• Use extra time constructively. As an example, instead of doing nothing before class while waiting for the professor to arrive, try to think of the latest class assignment. If you are assigned to write an essay or research paper, use the time to think of a good topic for it.

It is a fantastic way to portion your time into manageable pieces, and great time saver. It also allows you more time to spend time with your friends. When it comes to finishing tasks, sooner is always better than later.

• Time management planning is available for you to use to your advantage. Do not squander the resources and methods or available to you. The key to time management planning is carrying out the plans. Some college students get easily swayed by friends to attend a party while the student should be studying or otherwise in the process of achieving the established goals.

Oftentimes, students think that they can put off the agenda until tomorrow. Doing so often results in too many things to do the next day, resulting in stress and frustration.

You may have thought that each day is too short for you to finish all your work, and you may wish that there were more hours in a day. Those wishes are impossible. Therefore, the best course of action is to make use of what little time you do have.

A Instruction To Choosing A College Course

College courses and degree programs take around four years of study to finish. By and by, a few understudies may require more opportunity to finish the college course. It is likewise conceivable to abbreviate the college courses by concentrating on in the intersession of spring and summer.

An average student has to spend three hours of study for every hour spent in class. Fifteen hours per week is the average time for a university course. Depending upon the university course’s subject, classes may be held during the evening, afternoon or in the day. To support the academic university courses, they may also have to attend the clubs, athletics, recreational activities and societies.

The overall requirement for the degree along with the degree elements will be explained to the students by the faculty advisor. The advisor should be kept informed if the student has any specific area of interest or careers in mind while selecting the university courses. The university courses can be chosen by the students based on their degree requirements, schedules and their interests.

During the transition to the university course, there will be a peer mentor or an upper class student studying in the same degree program to assist the first year students undergoing the university course.

Study skills are enhanced by free workshops conducted through out the year. By appointment and during the regular hours of office, the professors will also assist the students to overcome any problems faced by them during their university course period. For specific classes, tutorials and labs facilities will also be available for the students. In case of difficulties, the students studying a university course are encouraged to contact professors, faculty advisors or counselors to overcome their problems.

The cost of university courses depends upon the area of study and the lifestyle of the student. The technology fee, student fees and tuition fee are standard and must be paid by the students.

Each university course focuses on its studies. To cite an example, languages, politics, history, psychology are people oriented university courses in the Bachelor of Arts program. Where as the university courses under Bachelor of Science programs such as statistics, mathematics or biology are not people oriented.

Within a university course, in the degree program, a major should be chosen by the students. Within the overall degree, this is a specific study area. The majority of the courses will be related to the specific discipline when a major subject is chosen by the student. A student selecting history as his major in his university course will be studying more history related material than any other areas of study within that course.

Several Ways to Ask Before Picking Your College Major

1. What is the understudy lounge(study range) like – Okay listen to me on this one… At to begin with, when I saw the software engineering lounge I thought it was awesome. It has lounge chairs, a whiteboard, huge amounts of books and magazines identified with software engineering and even a cooler (little aesthetic sciences school alright?). It wasn’t until my lesser year when I needed to pull a dusk ’til dawn affair with my science significant companion that I understood how wasteful the space was. While the chem lounge appeared to be exhausting and dull, it was a substantially more custom fitted to examining. Ground there was no ice chest with remaining pizza, yet there were numerous tables, an entire mass of whiteboards and agreeable seats at the table and here and there you need to make penances.

2. What emotionally supportive network is set up – This could be anything from mentors accessible, to clubs identified with that major. Not just have I met some of my closest companions in software engineering clubs, additionally individuals who are accessible to help me when I unavoidably keep running into a bug at 1 am the night prior to my code is expected.

3. The teachers – If you haven’t heard it yet, you will. In all honesty, there are only a few divisions that are superior to anything others. You will need to take numerous classes in your major, and if 7/15 educators are famously unreasonable graders, your GPA just turned into a session of Russian roulette. Alternately, if large portions of the educators are known for having supportive available time and drawing in classes, then will probably go to class, as well as will probably appreciate it.

4. The temporary jobs and concentrate abroad open doors accessible – It is for the most part acknowledged that there are a larger number of entry level positions accessible to econ majors than there are to workmanship history majors. It’s only an unavoidable truth. This doesn’t imply that you can’t get a hammer dunk entry level position since you’re a workmanship history major or that you can’t get a frightful, futile temporary job as an econ real, it just means the craftsmanship history major may need to work somewhat harder. Same thing goes for concentrate abroad. A considerable measure of times certain majors will experience serious difficulties classes that adjust to their educational programs abroad (I’m taking a gander at you biochem), so in the event that you truly need to concentrate abroad, it is best to check in with your counselor before you sign the papers.

5.Do you like the classes? This is the undeniable one and the one you’ve probably heard before from each counsel and upperclassmen you’ve conversed with. Regardless of how frequently this guidance is given out, despite everything i’m astonished at what number of individuals are taking classes they despise on the grounds that they “need” to be a sure major.

6. Do you like the general population in the classes? This is something that I wish I had checked a tad bit more before picking my major. Would I have picked an alternate major-perhaps. In any event at my University and in my real, you need to work in gatherings on numerous ventures. Possibly this is an only a little aesthetic sciences software engineering real issue, however I have had classes that I needed to work in little gatherings or with an accomplice and it didn’t go over so well.

7. Converse with individuals who have a degree in the field you are pondering – Often times individuals don’t understand what a vocation for somebody in their major truly resembles. I was reluctant to follow software engineering at first since I knew I would not like to sit at a desk area programing a PC diversion for whatever remains of my life. A bit of conversing with my consultant and a few graduates consoled me that there were numerous a larger number of choices than what I was imagining.

8. Prerequisites outside of normal classes – I understand this can shift from school to class yet it is unquestionably worth looking at. For instance, as a software engineering real I need to finish a senior project(picture application), for all intents and purposes without anyone else’s input keeping in mind the end goal to get my degree. My flat mate, who is an econ major needs to take comps, which is a gigantic test over fundamentally everything in the econ division. My other flat mate is a biochem major and notwithstanding her comps, she needs to go to a specific number of addresses her lesser and senior year.

9. Applicable graduate school or expert school – If you need to go to med school, you don’t need to be a hard science major yet you need to take such a large number of essential classes that you should be. Graduate school then again draws in an extensive variety of majors. It is additionally worth seeing whether the vast majority in your field go ahead to graduate school. On the off chance that you totally can’t envision yourself going to class for another 4 years, but everybody applying to passage level occupation in your field has PHD’s I have terrible news for you.

10. It’s not perpetual until you graduate – If you were understanding this and you built up a disturbing sweat that you were in the wrong field, have no apprehension! You can simply (just about) change your major. It might mean you need to take classes over the late spring or stay an additional semester relying upon how far along you are, yet in the event that it’s truly something you need to do, more often than not counsels and teachers will work with you in light of the fact that at last they truly simply need to see you succeed.

Overseeing Time For Working University Students

Overseeing Time For Working University StudentsNumerous understudies have discovered that, to get however school, you should be adaptable in your school arranges and take in the abilities of time administration. These things will help you survive school with less trouble.

Consider the people who hold jobs while they are still in college. If you have a family depending on your job, you would to put your that job as your most important priority. There are many types of jobs that offer various work shifts. You can choose one that would give you enough time for classes and studying.

Your classes would come in as a close second in your list of priorities. You may be able to choose class schedules that will not conflict with your work schedule. Try to choose a class schedule that would easily fit into your general work schedule. If you mostly work evenings, choose classes that meet in the mornings. If you work mostly during the day, consider night classes.

In school, time administration abilities can spare you much inconvenience and disappointment. A few understudies are sufficiently lucky to have educators show them the estimation of appropriately dealing with their time. However, for others, they should battle with difficulties and learn it the most difficult way possible.

With all the complexities and obstacles in university life, you may find that with the proper time management skills, you can still keep up with extracurricular activities and activities outside classes.

How to maintain successful time management is relatively easy. You merely have to put together a calendar of activities and due dates at the beginning of the semester. By the time classes start, you will know which things to mark as important and which ones to set aside as lesser priorities.

Your third priority should be study time. Designate an hour or two of studying before, between, or after classes. That method has worked for the majority of working students. You can fit this study time during breaks or while you are in transit to your class. If you work far from campus, you can read some notes while waiting for the bus, traveling, or while stuck in traffic. Of course, be careful if driving and reading. Don’t focus on reading unless traffic is stopped.

Your fourth priority would be your home life. Block off times when you are going to assist in household duties, bill payments and other related obligations. It would be a smart idea to block out interruptions while you are at home and busy with your tasks. You can take care of those other things another time.

The last, and one of the most meaningful priorities, is making time for yourself. With your hectic schedule, it would be the best time to do things you cannot do at other times. These are your personal, special times. You should be able to do activities that you enjoy, spend time with friends, or just relax. You will find that this is very critical for you since these times will be your time to breathe and wind down.

A sensible option is to have a work schedule at night and school in the morning or vice versa. Such a schedule would not have you frantically dashing to go to work or class. With proper time management, you would have more time to accomplish more tasks. When you have this schedule, you can get involved in campus-related activities, especially if your schedules do not begin immediately after each other.

You can actually finish a degree, get an early start in earning some money and increase your chances of a more successful life in the future simply by being flexible and learning how to manage your time.

This is the importance of being flexible, exercising time management and having a career while still in college.

Unlike some of the more privileged students, there are many university students who do not have the money and resources to get through college without the income a full or part-time job provides. It is for this reason that they are determined to finish their studies while working for it in the process.

It can also be advantageous to have a career while attending college. It allows the student to learn how life really works early on. Not only that, they can develop a great sense of responsibility and accomplishment through the application of time management skills.

Your College President Must Interact With Students

Have you ever had something essential you needed to convey to the consideration of the President of your school?

Understudies, Parents and Alumni may attempt to contact their College President by means of Telephone, E-Mail or by Letter. A few understudies may even visit the President’s office. Sadly, the commonplace answer the vast majority get is quiet.

Phone calls are usually not returned and there will be no reply to your e-mail message or letter. Too many College Presidents have no time for or interest in the things that students, parents or alumni think or recommend. However, there is one exception–major donors. If someone donates $10,000 or more, they may get a form letter or a message from a staff member. The fact that students are struggling to pay $80,000 to $250,000 for tuition and expenses may not be recognized as a good enough reason to listen to their concerns and suggestions.

When you try to contact your College President, you may find that they have surrounded themselves with layers of protection and security. Nothing much gets through. Only the official policy gets out.

Few College Presidents pick up their own office phones or reply to an e-mail message or letter. If by some miracle you get through to an assistant, you will quickly be shuttled off to “the person who handles that area.” With that, the assistant who works for that person will promise to leave a message for him/her. Of course, very often, you will never hear back.

In rare instances, there will be a college president who is different. Those College Presidents and some college leaders find ways to gather firsthand information. To hear from their students, they:

1. Designate certain days to field questions from students, parents and alumni

2. Make presentations to share information with students and then invite questions

3. Regularly attend athletic events and interact with students

4. Find time to visit the cafeteria, student center, dorms and library

5. Hold meetings to hear student likes, dislikes, concerns and suggestions

6. Regularly meet with student officers and representatives

7. Walk around campus to chat with students

8. Occasionally sit in on classes
