Broadway travel advices in 2021 by Tripadvisor

Music and culture site Okayplayer and photography museum Fotografiska New York are offering New Yorkers a new series of live, guided meditations every Friday at 6 p.m. now, through March 19. The event, taking place at the museum, will incorporate tracks from “PASSAGE, the EP,” Okayplayer’s new project developed to inspire community healing through sound and stillness. The lead track of the record features Big K.R.I.T.; a short-film visualizer by the man behind some of Beyonce’s greatest visual works, Andrew Morrow.

If there is one crucial piece in the set of this show, it is the objects that didn’t even exist on the stage which gave the show the most dimension, setting, and emotion. These digital realities were pictured on a giant wraparound screen which posed as the backdrops for all scenes. This rapidly accelerated the set changes such that it seemed like a film in itself. The screen flicked between classrooms in a fraction of a second, and the lighting levels with it, establishing a realistic picture and making the stage so much larger. There was almost no turnaround time between scenes, keeping the audience constantly engulfed in the happenings. Its novelty and spectacle represented a new and improved future for Broadway in which screens can display the way to film-like reality onstage!

The first expected to return are Hamilton, Wicked, or The Phantom. None of them released any statements concerning cancelation. Like mentioned above, Hamilton managed to sustain some stability during the COVID pandemics, so it’s almost certain that it will return. Wicked has the largest venue at its back, and also celebrates an 18th birthday this year, so it’s supposed to return. The Phantom…well, he has been around for so long, so we can’t simply imagine Broadway without it. However, there are plenty of great family activities. The Statue of Liberty was France’s gift to America. Built in 1886, it remains a famous world symbol of freedom and one of the greatest American icons. It is one of the world’s largest statues, standing just under 152 feet tall from the base to the torch, and weighing approximately 450,000 pounds. You can see the statue from land, with particularly good views from Battery Park, on the southern tip of Manhattan. However, to truly appreciate the Statue of Liberty, the best thing to do is to take a short boat trip to Liberty Island and see it up close. You can walk around the base, enter the pedestal, or, with advance reservations, go right up to the crown. On a tour to the Statue of Liberty, you have the option to stop at Ellis Island and explore the Immigration Museum. This fantastic museum is located in the historic immigration station complex, where thousands of immigrants were processed before entering the United States. Displays focus on the process, the experiences, and the stories of the people who came through here on their journey to the United States. No matter when you go to Times Square, it will be packed with people (usually other tourists). There are pedestrian areas where you can sit and hang out. If you aren’t shopping or eating or seeing a show, there isn’t much to do in the area (and no New Yorker hangs out there), but it’s still a fabulous place to people-watch for a few minutes from the top of the red steps of the TKTS kiosk. Like sports? NYC has some world-class sports teams. I’m not a big sports fan (the Yankees play soccer, right?), but games are fun when you have friends to share the experience with.
